Societal Implications
- There is a common misperception about sex, porn,
and what the “right” way to do things are.
- Many women as well as men are confused as to
what is acceptable.
- The expectations are too high for both parties.
- Many women internalize their performance during
sex and many resort to using porn as a guide.
- To that extent many individuals use their sexual
experiences as a reflection of their self-worth.
- Women, in particular, need to understand the
larger sociological implications of their internalizations.
- Enacting a “pornified” version of sex allows for
a false positive for human interactions and forces both partners to believe
that is the only acceptable way.
- Personal choice and experimentation are often
replaced with the expected “pornified” versions of sex acts, which is limiting
to both parties.
- Porn limits the views of both men and women and
creates false expectations that can be harmful to relationships.
Pornography, The media, and Society
- Media influences the porn ideology in a way by glamorizing the business which inspires teenage girls to aspire to be porn stars
- Media outlets Vh1 and MTV for example glorify porn stars in way such as having famous porn star Ron Jeremy guest appearing on their shows.
- Hardcore Porn both gay and straight entered the mainstream in the 1970s
- Large corporations are now in the porn industry business as well. Popular corporations such as Marriot and At&t now distribute porn.
- Porn has become more popular and tolerable in today’s society; It can be argued that porn is now at the heart of mainstream culture.
- Because of shifts in technology and in our culture, Pornography has transformed into a dominant entity.
- Before Porn wasn’t as readily available to the masses it was more of sequestered industry, but now a days it is easier to find porn than ever before.
- As a society we are losing the war on pornography.
- Society has changed its standards on regulating what is considered obscene or pornographic as the masses are becoming more lenient towards some forms of porn such as soft core porn.
